The printer might not be set to print on glossy paper. While using different papers to print, you must change the settings. If the paper type is set to A4 and you are printing on glossy paper, the printer will not recognize it and you will get ink smudges when printing.

Step 1– Find the settings menu and enter it by pressing the OK button on the printer dashboard.

Step 2– Use the right arrow button to find the “Printer Setup” option.

Step 3– Press OK to enter the printer setup.

Step 4– Navigate to the Paper source setting and then press the OK button.

Step 5– Find “Paper Settings” and enter the settings by pressing OK.

Step 6– Use the arrow keys to find the “Paper Type” option.

Step 7– Press the OK button again.

Step 8– To avoid printer ink smearing while printing on glossy paper, make sure that “Glossy” is selected as the paper type.

After you have changed the print settings, print a document or photo to check whether printer ink smudging is still present in your printouts. If the ink smear is still present, you will have to clean the area of the printer where the printhead sits.

Cleaning the Inside of the printer 

There might be excess ink near the Print Head area which is the reason for ink smudges when printing. Follow the below steps to clean the area.

Step 1– Turn on the printer and wait for the print head to move to the left. When it moves, turn off the printer by disconnecting the power cable.

Step 2– Using your hand, move the print head to the right.

Step 3– Take tissue paper and clean the ink inside of the printer where the print head sets which is causing print smear on your documents. Repeat the process until all of the extra ink is removed.

Step 4– Close the covers and print a page to check if you still have the issue of Smudged Printouts on Inkjet Printers.
